The Georgia Republican Party is saddened to report that Michael Brown, Republican nominee for State House District 98, died suddenly on Tuesday, August 19. Michael was a wonderful person, loving husband and father and would have been a great addition to the State House of Representatives. He will be terribly missed by his family and his many friends.
Michael had no opposition in the General Election in November. Under state law, the State Executive Committee has the option of making a substitute nomination. Yesterday, the Committee voted that it would fill the nomination and notified the Secretary of State of the same.
The State Executive Committee invites all interested Republicans who meet the qualification requirements to apply for the substitute nomination. To be considered for the nomination, you must email your request and any supporting documentation no later than 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 24 to Executive Committee member Jason Thompson at [email protected]. A subcommittee will interview applicants on Monday, August 25 in Gwinnett County. Applicants will be notified of the place and time of their interviews with the subcommittee.
In addition, voting members of the State Executive Committee may recommend a person for the substitute nomination by sending an email to Adam Pipkin at [email protected] no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, August 25. A list of the members is on the GAGOP website. Those recommended by a State Executive Committee member may make a brief presentation to the Executive Committee on Tuesday, August 26. The time and place of that meeting will be announced shortly.
