The 2015 State Party Convention in Athens was the perfect place for Minority Engagement advocates to highlight the success of our program and applaud the hard work of partner organizations and ambassadors throughout Georgia.
From breakfast meetings with Governor Chris Christie to the Convention floor with thousands of delegates, alternates, and guests, movement leaders took the stage to inform and inspire the Party faithful.
Several Engagement Advisors like Nic Buford of Valdosta manned booths for national campaigns and organizations. And authors like Javier Manjarres, Vivian Childs, and Demetrius Minor shared their stories while convention goers wandered the hallways of The Classic Center.
Florida Senator Marco Rubio drew enormous crowds on Friday afternoon as he addressed the convention delegates. As a growing testament to the importance of connecting with Hispanic voters, Rubio spoke briefly in Spanish – a trend that was replicated by candidates and Party leaders throughout the weekend.
Before keynoting the Victory Dinner, Texas Senator Ted Cruz joined hundreds at the Party’s Minority Engagement reception. With over twenty Engagement Ambassadors on stage with him, Senator Cruz said that he had “never seen anything like this” anywhere else in the country.
The momentum of the Party’s Minority Engagement program also inspired significant independent action during the two-day convention. Engaged Futures Inc. – a minority engagement focused non-profit held a private fundraiser in Athens and Rep. BJ Pak organized his own gathering focused on enhancing involvement within the Asian community. Republicans of Hispanic heritage also met in The Classic Center to discuss Hispanic voter engagement and the Hispanic Republican Council.
Throughout the two-day convention, Louisiana Senator Elbert Guillory was on hand to offer insight and encouragement. Senator Guillory was very generous with his time and I am forever grateful for his hard work in Georgia and beyond. I would also like to thank the elected officials who took the stage to praise our program’s successes. Their words reiterated the strategic importance of our program and their commitment means the world to us.
As we move forward towards 2016, we need continued support from those involved in the Republican Party. Take a look at our video above to find out more about what we’ve done and how you can be an important part of where we are going. Together, we can grow the Party, spread the conservative message, and move our state and country forward.
